See, experience and learn in the Peak District National Park

Boy and treeThe Peak District National Park is a protected area of international conservation importance. To the north, the Dark Peak is known for its wide open moorlands and exposed rocks while in the south, the gentler White Peak is a limestone plateau dissected by steep sided dales.

The Peak District National Park Authority works closely with local businesses, visitors and residents to conserve this beautiful landscape, support local economies and encourage public access for informal recreation.

This ‘living landscape’ contains many different types of land use, from tourism and recreation to limestone quarrying, farming, water collection and settlements. This diversity makes it the ideal location for young people to study a wide variety of subjects relevant to today's education.

The National Park Learning Team aims to increase young people’s awareness of the natural environment and the role they have to play in its future.

Our programmes provide young people with an enhanced ‘learning outside the classroom’ experience by:

  • Creating opportunities to explore and investigate the natural world in a safe and supportive environment
  • Debating an exciting and comprehensive range of environmental topics and issues
  • Providing an enjoyable experience that is supportive and values the individual
  • Developing a greater awareness and understanding of the Peak District National Park

All activities are fully risk assessed, with our leaders CRB checked and trained to a high standard. Teacher’s notes are provided for all the activities in advance, and suggestions for pre- or follow-up work can be given.

We strive to make our field visits accessible to all.  Many of our sites are accessible to people with limited mobility, but it would be wise to discuss your particular needs with us before booking .
