I am confident that this Local Plan will help us to meet the challenges facing our rural area in a positive and sustainable way whilst upholding the purposes for which National Parks were created. This Plan adds detail to the Structure Plan and completes the Peak District National Park Development Plan. It will not be long before we start to review the policies again, and our intention is to merge the Structure and Local Plans in the context of a new forward planning system currently before Government. This will help us to keep pace with the changing needs and aspirations of those who live in or visit the area. I welcome the fact that, while this Plan was being prepared, Regional Planning Guidance for the East Midlands (RPG8) was reviewed in a way that places the Peak District National Park in a sub-regional context and confirms its status as a special place.
