Building regulations and historic buildings

Part L Building Regulations are concerned with fuel and power conservation. These regulations were changed with effect from 1 April 2006.

The changes are quite complicated and we are waiting for guidance from English Heritage on how the new regulations affect historic buildings.

In the meantime if you are thinking about any works to your listed building you should contact your building control team at your local authority to check if building regulations approval is needed.

The following types of work may now need building regulations approval:

  • window replacement
  • re-roofing
  • rendering

Please remember that building regulations approval is a separate process to listed building consent and in some cases both may be needed.
