Why we’re here for you…
In 2008 the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) carried out a special study of the Peak District economy. It highlighted some interesting points of view and facts about landscape, population and tourism.
| Place is important. | |
| When businesses were asked: What impact does the quality of the Peak District landscape have on business performance? More than half felt that the landscape benefitted their business. Maintaining the National Parks high quality environment is important for the local economy. | Keeping the Peak Districts environment special is good for local business. Live & Work Rural can help people develop new ideas that benefit the Peak District environment. We can advise on how to gain the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark. Contact us if youre interested. |
| Population matters. | |
| Nearly 40,000 people live in the National Park. A quarter of residents (25%) are above working age - this is higher than the national average (19%). The local population is growing because people aged 45+ move into the area. Making the most of these peoples skills could benefit local communities. | Together, local people offer an incredible range of skills, knowledge, life and work experience. What a great team of supporters, volunteers and mentors for the Peak Districts special places and communities! If you think you could help improve the quality of life in your area call us. |
| Micro businesses can do well. | |
| Most Peak District businesses are very small over 80% employ less than 5 people this can be a strength. Younger people of working age tend to move away. The high cost of living in the National Park and lack of job opportunities are the main reasons. | The Live & Work Rural partnership wants to help businesses and communities create new jobs to keep local families in the area and attract new people who will benefit the Peak District. Get in touch if you've got an idea that could help. |
| The jewel in the crown. | |
| The East Midlands region attracts 12.8 million visitor days per year because of the Peak District National Park. Visitors bring £135 million extra income to the East Midlands region. | The Peak District is a great asset. Taking care of it is good for everyone - businesses, local communities, visitors and the planet! Call us to find out what advice or grants are available. |
