A Recreation Strategy for the Peak District National Park 2010 - 2020

Peak District recreation strategy front cover

Enshrined in the national parks' legislation are the twin purposes - to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage and to promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of our national parks.

The Peak District National Park Authority has produced a 10 year strategic plan that will guide the way recreation services and facilities are provided and managed in the national park by itself and partners. It will also help to promote the range of opportunities on offer and an understanding of the balance between recreation and conservation.

The strategy has been produced in consultation with a wide range of recreation groups - representing activities ranging from abseiling through to windsurfing - as well as the community and health sector, landowners, environmental organisations, local councils and governing bodies.

The recreation strategy and action plan will be published in March 2010. It aims to:

  • Review existing recreation facilities and services
  • Identify areas that could be improved
  • Consider the priorities for improving recreation facilities and services until 2020
