Family fun at Magpie Mine. National Park Archaeologist, John Barnatt leads archaeological tours, whilst children become lead miners, make a miners hat and take part in games and activities at this atmospheric site.

What's the distance and terrain?
1 mile, exploring Magpie Mine site, which contains hillocks and ruins.
What do I need to bring?
Packed lunch, drink, stout shoes, waterproofs, weather appropriate clothing.
How do I get there?
From the A6 north of Bakewell head towards Ashford in the Water. Just past the junction for the A6020 take the first turn on your left and follow the road up the hill until you come to a T junction, turn right. Magpie Mine entrance is on the right hand side after half a mile.
What else do I need to know?
This event is part of the Festival for British Archaeology and is being organised in partnership with the Peak District Mines Historical Society.
