Sustainable Management and Conflict Resolution in the National Park

Cycling in the Upper Derwent

Key Stage: KS3 and above

Duration: Available as a half or standard day (10:30 – 16:00)

Location: Either North Lees Estate (on foot) or Upper Derwent Valley (on bikes or on foot) – please contact us for further information


This programme examines the relationship between conservation, recreation and economic activity, ultimately considering the sustainable management of the landscape. Two possible sites are available, North Lees Estate and Upper Derwent Valley. At North Lees Estate students can explore the potential conflicts and issues between stakeholders and their resolution around Stanage Edge. In the Upper Derwent Valley students can explore the potential implications of a water-based development on the landscape.
