A River’s Tale

Duration: A River’s Tale is available as half or full day
A River’s Tale is the study of water and the processes involved in the formation of landscapes by rivers and streams. Children will measure various aspects of rivers and streams and observe and record their features. The programme is composed of two elements, either of which can be booked as a half-day activity:
The Birth of a River – how streams and rivers affect the landscape. Here we:
- Investigate the water cycle and how streams and rivers are formed
- Use simple fieldwork techniques to discover how rivers create landscape features
- Journey down a stream through the beautiful Peak District National Park
- Consider the sustainable management of rivers and their environment
Riverbank Explorers – living things in the water environment. Here we:
- Investigate how living things are adapted to their environment
- Examine the life in a stream using simple field equipment and identification keys
- Understand the importance of food chains and inter-relationships
