Eleven foster families took part in an overnight family learning adventure. Foster families with looked after children aged 7 years and over were invited to take part in residential family learning activities.
The adventure took place at Losehill Hall, the Peak District National Park Centre for Environmental Education, which was owned and managed by the Peak District National Park Authority. The families had access to 27 acres of woodland where a series of outdoor activities’ were planned to explore and use the world around us.
20 children took part in the activities here are some of their thoughts:
“I loved the parachute games because they are my favourite”
“I loved the pond dipping”
“It was all brill, I loved it and the food was great”
“Making dens for the teddy bears was best”
“ I liked making new friends”
“The children were able to explore and were able to have a bigger safe boundary”
“One of the main benefits was that all of us were going to stay somewhere new, not just Callum , he could see other children in his situation”
“Damien is still talking about the fact he had his own room and a key!”
“It was good for Hayley to make friends with other looked after children”
“It was good to see how other foster carers looked after the children in their care”
“Getting together with other carers was really great”
“The group shared the responsibilities of the kids”
“Knowing other carers understood you”
The other overwhelming response from everyone was:
“Food and accommodation were a real wow factor!”
When asked whether they would encourage other foster families to take part in an adventure like this the answer was “Yes”
One foster carer said “Yes definitely but I don’t want them to have my place!”
