I have lived and worked in the National Park all of my life.
I have been a member of the Peak District National Park Authority since 1992 and am currently appointed to my role as one of the Derbyshire County Council representatives.
I have been a Derbyshire County Councillor for Bakewell since being elected in 1997 and have held a wide range of roles.
Since 1983 I have also been the Derbyshire Dales District Councillor for Bakewell. I am currently the council's chairman and have been chairman of the Northern Area Forum for the last eight years. I have previously been chairman of the Northern Planning Committee.
I was previously a Bakewell town councillor for many years and held the position of Mayor of Bakewell three times.
Locally I am involved in many organisations and serve as President of both Bakewell’s St John Ambulance branch and the Bakewell District Club for the Disabled, and as Vice-president of the Royal British Legion Ladies section.
I am also Chairman of Bakewell Community Interest group, Chairman of Derbyshire Dales Community Forum, a member of Bakewell Responders and a former governor on three schools in the town having chairman of the infants’ school.
It is a special place to live and work. I would hate to see it become a museum - it has to be a living national park and grow so that local people - especially young families - can live here and so that we can protect all the jobs, especially in farming and quarrying.
I represent the Peak District National Park Authority on the following outside bodies:
