About Me

My husband John and I have lived and worked in the Staffordshire Moorlands for over 45 years; we have lived in Rudyard since 1984. Our home is approximately five miles from the Peak District National Park boundary.
Since moving to Rudyard I have been active in the community, first becoming secretary to Horton Village Hall in 1990 and later appointed as Treasurer in 1992, a job that I still enjoy. It has also been my pleasure to serve as a school governor at Rushton Primary School for the past eight years. In addition, I ran my own small Hairdressing & Beauty business in Leek until 1999.

What the national park means to me

For me the Peak District National Park is a special and magical place, not only for its spectacular natural beauty and diversity, but also for the wealth of cultural heritage that is evident both in the built environment and in many local traditions. All this is bound up in the generations of families that have lived and worked in this unique area.
Therefore, I believe that the governance of the Peak District National Park is primarily one of conservation. However, tourism and recreation, the reason for the national park’s being first established, is a major factor, but even more importantly, I believe that the wellbeing of local communities is paramount.
The demands placed upon the national park are many and varied, particularly on the infrastructure with ever increasing vehicular activity. It is vital therefore, that all aspects of the national park are protected, enhanced and viable. As a member of the Peak District National Park Authority, I shall strive to further this goal.

I represent the Authority on the following bodies

I am a member of the Peak District National Park planning committee.

In my role as a councillor

Presently, I am a member of the Resources Overview & Scrutiny Panel and was appointed by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council as its representative on the Peak District National Park Authority on 17 July 2010.
