Highway authorities are responsible for producing what is called the Definitive Map – this gives the legal status of routes and says who can and can’t use them. The legal right to use many of these routes has yet to be clarified. You can find out more about this at the following locations

At the Derbyshire County Council Regulatory Licensing & Appeals Committee on 18 October 2010 (Item 5) members resolved to close claims for Byway Open to All Traffic on the following routes within the Peak District National Park:
