Adverts placed for new director of planning post
Applications are being sought for a new director to lead the Peak District National Park Authority’s planning service into the future.
The new position will combine the current head of planning and director of development planning roles.
As well as being the lead professional planner the director will front important work to promote good customer service, engage with local communities and help explain planning processes in a simpler way to residents.
The change follows the first part of a review which will look at the entire management structure of the organisation. Once completed the review will contribute a further £100,000 towards the £1.8 million the authority needs to save from its £7.8 million budget over four years.
Jim Dixon, chief executive of the Peak District National Park Authority, said: “Planning is a vital part of the authority’s work and plays a key role in our aim of encouraging sustainable developments in ways that won’t harm the special landscape and character of the national park.
“It is important that we have clarity about who makes key decisions, who guides staff and members and who is responsible for all aspects of the leadership of our work.
“When we started making the budget savings we agreed that the number of senior managers we have would reflect the reductions in the number of staff in teams across the organisation.
“We have also used the opportunity to look again at the way we structure the organisation to give clarity on all aspects of leadership and ensure we provide a period to enable a smooth hand over between the old and new management structures.”
As part of the changes Bob Bryan, the head of planning, has applied for voluntary redundancy. John Lomas, the director of development planning, has applied to take flexible retirement, which will initially see him reduce his hours to three days a week and then retire in March 2014. During this time he will focus on minerals, planning policy and rural policy work.

A review is now underway to look at future management options for the Peak District National Park Authority’s operations directorate, which covers rangers, visitor centres, cycle hire centres, rights of way, countryside maintenance, property and Moors for the Future.
Proposals for changes to the management of those teams will then be followed by a similar review of the management of the corporate resources teams.
