Getting advice from our team

We know that submitting a planning application can be both a confusing and time-consuming process. To help guide you through the process, we offer free advice before you submit your application.

Last year, we approved 85% of planning applications and many of the successful applicants took advantage of our free advice.

The pre-application advice that we provide is not legally binding as it doesn’t take into account the views of neighbours, local councils and other public bodies. Final decisions can only be made once an application has been made and all interested parties have been consulted.

Drop-in service

You can get advice from a planning duty officer every day through our drop-in service. A duty officer is available from 9.15am to 12.45pm from Monday to Friday at:

Aldern House
Baslow Road
Bakewell DE45 1AE

Before you come to see us, please remember:

  • Bring as much additional information as possible (drawings, maps, plans, photos, measurements).
  • We allocate 20 minutes for each visitor.
  • During busy times, you may have to wait for the duty officer to become available.

Telephone advice

You can speak to the duty officer by calling our customer service team on 01629 816 200. If the duty officer is busy, we will take your contact details and a duty officer will call you back within 48 hours.

E-mail and written advice

You can also write to the planning team at customer.service@peakdistrict.gov.uk. If your query is straightforward, we will respond within 48 hours. If your query requires a planning officer to carry out research, we will respond within 15 working days.

If you would like advice in writing, please send as much information as possible (full address, drawings, maps, plans, photos and measurements) to:
