Bishop takes a cycling pilgrimage in the Peak District

22 May 2010

Bishop of Derby hiring a tandem
The Right Reverend Alastair Redfern, Bishop of Derby showed that he is a believer in cycling as a great way to get around the countryside when he borrowed a tandem from a National Park cycle hire centre.

The Bishop’s cycle ride on the Tissington Trail was part of a day of celebration for the natural environment held on 22 May, which is World Biodiversity Day.

More than 70 people from congregations in the Derby Diocese took part in cycling, nature walks and Tissington village tour led by National Park Rangers.

The Bishop is pictured collecting the tandem at Parsley Hay cycle hire centre with his wife and Jim Dixon, Chief Executive of the Peak District National Park Authority.

To follow in the Bishop’s tracks and explore the Tissington and High Peak Trails then call in at Parsley Hay cycle hire centre (01298 84493 or parsleyhay.cyclehire@peakdistrict.gov.uk), it’s just off the A515 Buxton to Ashbourne road near Hartington.
