Pedalling the Parks

1,658 miles, 15 National ParksCan you support Lorna's epic challenge?

Lorna Fisher loves a challenge.

And our intrepid engagement manager is about to embark on her greatest one yet – a 1600-mile cycling marathon, taking in all of the UK’s 15 national parks. In just two weeks.

Her challenge coincides with National Parks Weeks – from April 6th to 21st – during which Lorna aims to visit every national park, from the Cairngorms to the South Downs.

The epic journey is about twice the distance as cycling from Lands End to John O’ Groats and has been inspired by two great causes.

Lorna will be raising funds for the newly launched Peak District National Park Foundation – which this year aims to raise £70,000 for projects which care for our landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage. And she will highlight 2019 as the Year of Green Action – urging people to say #iwill to new challenges that contribute to sustainable lifestyles.

Keen cyclist Lorna has taken part in a number of regional sportives, club rides and Audaxes – but this will be by far her greatest test.

"I’m an explorer at heart who loves being outside – I’m happiest when walking in the hills, whizzing along country lanes or simply exploring.

"I’ve previously taken part in 400km and 600km Audaxes (time-limited distance rides) but at around 2500km over two weeks, this will be like nothing else I’ve attempted before.

"In my roles at the Peak District National Park I’m incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to inspire and engage others, sharing my passion for the natural world.

"I’m looking forward to tuning into some amazing landscapes on my journey and meeting some of the people who live and work in our national parks. Seeing the world from two wheels always brings a new perspective."

Cyclist Lorna FisherThe Peak District National Park Foundation - #70for70

Our aim is to grow support and raise funds to care for the Peak District National Park for everyone to enjoy forever.

We have big ambitions - to see more land managed for wildlife; more rare habitats protected and more people able to access and enjoy the UK’s original National Park.

This is a big year as it marks the 70th anniversary of legislation which led to the creation of national parks.

The National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 followed decades of campaigning and to mark this important milestone, we’ve launched our #70for70 campaign.

We’re aiming to raise £70,000 for a range of high impact projects that care for the spectacular landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage of the Peak District National Park.

And Lorna’s epic challenge could not be a greater start. Thanks Lorna!
