Days for Schools
The Moorland Discovery Centre near Sheffield is a lifelong learning centre, aimed at encouraging groups of all ages to experience the wonderful moorland of the Peak District National Park.
The centre is set in the grounds of the National Trust's Longshaw Estate surrounded by some of the most spectacular areas of the Peak District National Park. The estate is made up of large areas of moorland, woodland and farmland. The centre delivers high quality curriculum based environmental education as well as family and community events. It can also be booked by groups who wish to run their own meetings or courses.
The Moorland Discovery centre is run in partnership between the National Trust and the Peak District National Park Authority. Programmes may be delivered by staff from either organisation. Payment for programmes should be made before or on the day to the National Trust.
We strive to make our visits accessible to all. Days can be tailored to your group’s needs. While many of our sites are accessible to people with limited mobility it is recommended to discuss your particular needs with us before booking.

School visits take place between 10am to 2.30pm; this is flexible and the centre is open all year round.

Family and community work
We run many programmes from the centre that meet the varied needs of community and family groups. We aim to develop lifelong learning opportunities that encourage groups of all ages to experience and enjoy the Peak District National Park.
We run a wide range of events and talks in partnership with the National Trust.
Independent school and group visits
The Longshaw Estate and surrounding areas are used by many different schools, events and community groups. If you are planning on bringing an organised group to the estate please contact us for advice.

- Coaches must pre-book parking and pay and display
- A lot of the estate is protected under different conservation designations, please stick to the paths and contact us for advice.
