CHANCE FOR MORE PEOPLE TO 'SCOOT' INTO THE COUNTRYSIDE
A new mobility scooter has been unveiled at the Ashbourne Cycle Hire Centre.
The electric scooter is now available for hire. Scooter riders will be able to use it on the Tissington Trail and through Ashbourne Tunnel into the town centre.
Lynn Crowe, who chairs the Authority's Park Management Committee, said: "Having the mobility scooter to hire means that more people can now enjoy a trip along the Tissington Trail - whatever their ability or level of fitness.
"Whether you're with family, friends or on your own there are several miles to enjoy along a safe traffic-free route in one of the most beautiful parts of the National Park. We hope plenty of people will give it a try!"
The 7.5 mile traffic-free round trip to the picturesque village of Tissington is well within range of the scooter.
Inspiration for the project came from local people who asked if it would be possible to arrange a scooter to hire.
The project has been made possible thanks to the North Staffordshire/West Derbyshire Rural Transport Partnership (Information & Community Support Project) who paid for the scooter and to the Ashbourne Area Access Group for their help and advice. The Peak District National Park Authority will now maintain the scooter and hire it out. The hire charge for a three-hour period will be six pounds.
To book the new scooter or a cycle call the Ashbourne Cycle Hire Centre on 01335 343156. Cycle hire staff are on hand to give help and advice. Cycling helmets are available to borrow free of charge.
