Date set for public inquiry on Backdale Quarry
The Planning Inspectorate has set a new date for a public inquiry into quarrying operations at Backdale, on Longstone Edge near Bakewell.
Ten days have been allocated for the inquiry, starting February 13 next year, to investigate an appeal by operators MMC Mineral Processing Ltd and landowners Bleaklow Industries.
The companies are appealing against the Peak District National Park Authority’s enforcement action over limestone extraction which, in the Authority view, exceeds the 1952 planning permission.
The Inspector was originally scheduled to hear an appeal last September, but the inquiry was first delayed, then cancelled in March when similar enforcement action in Wales was nullified, affecting other cases throughout the country, including Backdale.
The Authority subsequently issued a new enforcement action and a new stop notice.
