Join in free summer cycling events

New and returning cyclists are being encouraged to get out and about in the Peak District National Park during the summer months.

Pedal Peak District, a cycling project run by the Peak District National Park Authority, is holding free events throughout July for residents and visitors to the national park which aim to get more people cycling.

Carol Parsons, organiser of the Pedal Peak District events, said: “Not only are we hoping to help beginners get ‘back on the bike’, but we also have a sociable ride for women only, aiming to build cycling confidence and fitness.”

All events are free and run by expert cycle guides but must be booked ahead.

Cyclists will also get a rare opportunity to be taken on a guided ride with the Peak District National Park Authority’s landscape architect Garrie Tiedeman to learn about how the national park landscape has been shaped by humans and nature over hundreds of years.

Carol Parsons said: “The Learning through Landscapes ride on 28 July is a perfect opportunity to combine a leisurely ride with learning about the distinctive landscape of the Peak District National Park, especially as it is during National Parks Week.”
