Did you know that people who have had national standard cycling training are three times safer on their bikes than untrained cyclists?

That is the claim on a new free leaflet titled ‘Trail Cycling, Ride:Respect’ which gives advice from experienced cycle trainers at Pedal Ready, a cycling training cooperative.

The new leaflet is available from the two Peak District cycle hire businesses on the Monsal Trail at Blackwell Mill and Hassop Station.

It can also be downloaded from and

Top tips from the leaflet include:

Give walkers room – they are on the trail to relax not watch out for cyclists.

Assume you are invisible – other trail users may be hard of hearing, talking or listening to music. Don’t assume they’ve heard you.

Slow down – the trail is for leisurely cycling.

The leaflet has been produced for Pedal Ready’s Summer Cycling programme, which is subsidised by a grant from the Peak District National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund.

With more than 60 miles of cycling and walking trails and hundreds of miles of spectacular country roads, the Peak District is one of the most cycle-friendly national parks in the country and it is aiming to be one of the safest too with free advice and training for all ages and abilities.

Cycling in the school holidays is a great activity for families and friends. The Pedal Ready sessions are geared to showing people how to ride together, how to communicate, the benefits of good observation and many other confidence boosting tips.

Summer Cycling events for July and August are:

Cycling Sunday training sessions, 9.30am-11am, at the Agricultural Business Centre in Bakewell.

Hassop Holiday cycling sessions, 9am-12noon, on Mondays at Hassop Station.

Wheels on Wednesdays, 10am-1pm, at Parsley Hay cycle hire centre and 2-4 pm at Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire.

Every participant will receive the new ‘Trail Cycling, Ride:Respect’ leaflet.

To be sure of a place book a session by contacting Pedal Ready on 0114 2412775 or email . Cycle hire is often available at special rates for participants.
