Wonderful photographs of wildlife in the national park by local watercolour artist, photographer and writer Christine Gregory will be on display at Bakewell Visitor Centre from May 12 to June 27.

Kingfisher looking for a meal, River Bradford, photograph by Christine GregoryChristine lives in Youlgrave and is the author of two recent books about Peak District nature: 'A River in Time' and 'Brown Hares in the Derbyshire Dales'.

She is delighted to be showcasing her work in the visitor centre's Peak District Photography Gallery alongside local professional photographers.

Christine's portfolio has grown from a deep respect for the countryside and wildlife, having watched and followed wild creatures since childhood. She has developed an extensive photographic archive of nature and landscapes which complements her special knowledge of brown hares and other local wildlife.

I love to be in quiet places watching animals going about their lives, my greatest goal is to be invisible so I can get very close up to the animal and achieve a real insight into their life. My images give a private view into what wildlife does when it is undisturbed – if I startled them you would see it in their eyes.

"I am first and foremost an artist which means I bring a different sensibility to photography.  I have tried to capture personal, honest moments in animal's lives – photography enables me to take my experiences home and share them with others."

The exhibition will include Christine's images of local birdlife, such as heron, kingfisher and redstart, as well as Peak District mammals, including water vole and hare.  Her prints, cards and books will be available for people to buy.

More of Christine's beautiful photographs can be seen on her website at www.christinegregory.co.uk

The photo gallery is upstairs at Bakewell Visitor Centre, in the Old Market Hall, Bridge Street, DE45 1DS.  It provides space for display and sale by a collective of local photographers, with visiting exhibitions. Find out more at www.peakgallery.co.uk
