Traditional Orchards

Approximate Extent – unknown
Distribution – Unknown
Opportunities and Threats
Extent - Very limited, and probably always has been.
Condition – Probably inherently poor, in an area without a strong tradition of orchards.
Connectivity - Very poor. Sites small and isolated from other semi-natural habitat. Potential for connectivity via hedgerows and small woodlands.
Climate change risks – Low
Priorities
Inherently limited extent and poor quality mean that this habitat is a low priority for action in the Peak District. However, the wider benefits of community orchards and associated traditional countryside management skills such as bee-keeping have socio-economic benefits.
