Dove Stone (and reservoir)

Cycling at Dove Stones

Dove Stone is an RSPB and partner-managed reservoir and moorland on the outskirts of Oldham, with options for both level, surfaced walks and more strenuous climbs into the nearby hills.

Offering walks between 1.5 miles (30-40 mins) and up to 2.5 miles (1 hr) around the reservoir(s) or into the surrounding hills on longer routes, Dove Stone is also home to a Miles without Stiles path.

A picnic area and easy access from a dedicated car park make this a great location for a family day out, however BBQs are not allowed at Dove Stone. A popular local spot, the car park can often be full by early morning.

Those prepared for a longer walk into the hills may encounter wildlife including golden plovers, dunlin, curlew or perhaps even a passing peregrine falcon.
