Welcome Volunteers

The Peak District National Park welcomes over 13 million visitors each year. We want visitors to engage with the Peak District by exploring and enjoying it, and also take care of each moor and dale, gate and style, trail and footpath and everything else in between.

We need your help in doing this.

We need Welcome Volunteers to be the ambassadors of the Peak District National Park and create a warm and friendly welcome. This may be in or near to our Visitor Centres or it could be out a busy location supporting visitors. It could be answering questions, stressing the importance of conservation and management of the Peak District National Park, pointing out activities and walks, giving a little friendly advice.

You don’t need masses of knowledge or experience, we are keen to engage people who are passionate about the Peak District National Park and who are keen to learn more. We have a super supportive group of volunteers who are enjoying their experience. We have a variety of shift and if you can do a shift or two a month, then we would love to hear from you.

For further information and to arrange an initial chat please contact andrea.higginbottom@peakdistrict.gov.uk or apply online.

Peak Pathways: Youth Volunteering

We have youth volunteer days which are open to any 18–30-year-olds that just want to do some casual volunteering, meet different people and gain some practical conservation skills and knowledge. (These will be very similar to the formerly known 'Green Leaders' days).

Peak Park Conservation Volunteers

PPCV provides a unique opportunity for individuals to join in and help protect the environment through practical conservation projects. Anyone can join the PPCV Individual programme (although we do ask if you’re under 18 that a parent or guardian accompanies you). We run projects throughout the year. There is no minimum volunteer commitment: if you’re busy, it’s too far away, or you just don’t fancy the project that month then don’t worry, there is always next month.

It’s easy and free to get involved.

People of the Peak

The People of the Peak: Past Present Future Project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund,  jointly awarded to the Peak District National Park Authority and the Peak District National Park Foundation, thanks to National Lottery Players. You can find out more about the project here

We’re currently in the development stage of the project, so there aren’t many volunteering opportunities available right now and we’re not actively recruiting. Once we’ve secured funding for the delivery phase, we’ll be looking for more volunteers, so do check back next year. In the meantime, take a look at the other volunteering opportunities listed on this page.

Moors for the Future

Moors for the Future Partnership research, conserve and restore blanket bogs in the Peak District and South Pennines, UK. Working at landscape scale since 2003 to deliver evidence-led nature recovery programmes that take on the challenges of climate change.

We run our main programme of volunteering events in the peatland restoration season, from August to early March when you can join us for sphagnum moss planting, vegetation surveying and dipwell monitoring. Over the summer months we also offer a handful of opportunities to join us in public engagement, helping to raise awareness about the importance of peatland recovery and explain how the public can help reduce wildfire risk in these areas.
