Active Travel Plan

Horse riders and runner on the Tissington Trail

The Peak District National Park Authority has developed this Peak District Walking, Wheeling, Cycling and Horse-riding Infrastructure Plan to identify a high-level strategic network for Active Travel.

The network is based on the National Park’s existing multi-user Trails and the National Cycle Network (Sustrans routes).

However, our aspiration is to build on these existing routes to deliver better strategic connections between the National Park and our surrounding urban catchment areas.

We also want to provide better active travel links between our existing routes and our local communities as well as our popular visitor destinations. Our Plan sets out a number of aspirational routes that build on our existing network.

Some of these form part of Derbyshire County Council’s Key Cycle Network.

In all cases, our aspirational routes will only be delivered in partnership.

Our partners include our constituent and neighbouring highway authorities / Mayoral Combined Authorities, landowners, our residents, and all those people who walk, wheel, cycle and ride horses in the Peak District National Park. The development of this Plan has been made possible by Active Travel England and we are grateful, for the financial assistance and guidance provided throughout the process.
