Nature

Nature is a crucial part of our lives. We need it to produce the food we eat, clean the air we breathe and the water we drink, and help us feel less stressed and anxious in our fast-paced, modern environment.

The Peak District's wildlife is outstanding, from the limestone White Peak with its flower-rich dales to the gritstone Dark Peak with its internationally important peat bogs and birdlife, and the South West Peak with its intimate mosaic of habitats. The wildlife, combined with our geology, makes up the internationally important area that is the Peak District.

But we also know that it's in trouble. The State of Nature in the Peak District report tells us that a considerable amount of conservation and restoration work has been done, but there is still a long way to go.

Find out what the nature recovery ambitions are for the Peak District in the Nature Recovery Plan.
